As with regards to Mr Veljanov, I still believe he allowed quite a bit of himself to show in his first solo album.
Here are some interview-extracts of how he felt at the time:
"At the end of 1996 I found myself at home, having been on tour 200 out of 365 days, feeling empty and burned out, wondering what all of this was about."
"Then, I began to make a little music all by myself with no plans or pressure"
(The last statements are rough and ready translations by myself, taken from this interview:

"In the mid-nineties it (stardom) was almost unbearable for me."
I believe that he put many of his sentiments about himself as a singer into this song. Even if he was always very careful of guarding himself, he couldn't keep the bitterness out of it.
Mostly, I see it in these lines:
...
Good and gentle
like the shyness
and suddenly dazzled
by the rays of a golden life
I am your slave
and your victim
I am in a mire
selling myself
your games surround me
in the gloomy future
oh, what will you have made of me?
I am loyal, and forever
know my duty
must leave this place
take with me only my heart
just to save it
to save it from your love.
