The Green Mile

Since my last entry about films, I have actually watched quite a few of Nia's (http://hmm-yeah-whatever.blogspot.com) filmlist; last month's favourite definately was "The Sixth Sense", but I also liked "Das perfekte Verbrechen" (The Perfect Crime, if the German title is a word perfect translation, which I don't know) and "The Eye".

Tonight, however, I met the first film (of the list) that defeated me. I couldn't stand the horror of a carefully orchestrated execution in "The Green Mile" (edit: and according to my friend, who watched the film with me, I didn't even last to any of the tough scenes) - but rather fled into my study. I've always felt strongly about death penalities and read rather more such reports than were good for me. I adhere to the Ancient Greek belief that while there may be crimes that deserve the death penality, it cannot be carried out with any degree of morality in it. Not even if the criminals are really guilty.

I am nauseated, not frightened, but feel really quite as bad as I did when I read all these reports about the Spanish Inquisition or the work of excecutioners. There are really many things people shouldn't be doing to each other. For one, they shouldn't legalize the killing of other human beings.

Sorry for being so wet.
